Artist's Comments

Right, I've been working on this uber-colourful planisphere for ages and ages and ages. It doesn't help that I have a fairly turbulent relationship with Photoshop either (if you've seen the episode of Fawlty Towers where John Cleese is repeatedly hitting his car with a branch for not starting then you'll have an idea of what I mean).

If you're not familiar with the concept of a planisphere then this is basically a kind of manual computer for finding the stars and constellations at any given time of year and time of night. Simply print this and part 2 [link] out, cut out all the bits in white and you can align the date (using part 1) with the time (using part 2) and view a map of the heavens through the oval window (part 2). Glueing it to some card might also be an idea. Hope you enjoy it :D

Many thanks to the following deviants for providing stock images- aries :iconsweetpepper-stock: taurus :icontimewizardstock: gemini :iconhelly7307-stock: cancer :iconserendipitystock: leo :iconlexidh-stock: virgo :iconfaestock: libra :iconmjranum-stock: scorpio :icondracoart-stock: sagittarius :iconlakotasdream: capricorn :iconvw1956stock: aquarius :iconelithastock: pisces :iconpink-stock:

I also used the following reference sources;
Lawrence Hall of Science (University of California) [link]
Washington and Jefferson College [link]
The Oberver's Book of Astronomy, Patrick Moore (Frederick Warne and Co.) 1962- yes, really, lol, I have no idea where this came from, maybe I could sell it as an antique...

Update
Just to let you know, I've edited this slightly as people found it a bit small when printed so it's now bigger! Incidentally, if you do download this then feel free to fave it also as it currently has 43 downloads but only 7 faves, lol, anyway, I'll stop nagging now :D

Oh, and if you don't like the colour scheme, it's worth switching it to a negative in Photoshop or somewhere. Gives an entirely different effect...

Haha, yeah, it's a kind of map. It makes a lot more sense with the other part.

Looks very time-consuming, I really can't understand where people get their patience from o.0

Nice job ^^

Cool idea, but it's in the wrong category. Try artisan crafts or photomanipulation, using the misc. categories. It wouldn't count under photography because you didn't take a picture of anything, and I would hate to see your deviation removed for being a mis-cat when it's so neat. =)

Thanks for the fave, glad you like it. I still have no idea about the category- I thought about artisan crafts but I wasn't working with a physical object and although I've adapted photos, I don't know if I'd call the overall thing a photomanip. Think I'll just wait and see if the mods moan at me...
Maybe they should give this its own category- think of the hits it would get :D lol
